Ankle Weight
Ankle weights can help an autistic child who tends to walk on their tiptoes by providing extra sensory feedback and gentle resistance. Some children tiptoe because of sensory needs or reduced awareness of their body position, and the added weight around the ankles gives them a clearer sense of where their feet are in space. The slight resistance also makes it harder to lift the heels, which can encourage more natural heel-to-floor contact. In addition, the deep pressure from the weights can have a calming effect, which may reduce sensory-driven behaviors like tiptoeing. Over time, using ankle weights for short, supervised periods may also help stretch and strengthen the calf muscles, which are often tight in habitual toe-walkers. It’s important, though, that ankle weights are used carefully and ideally under the guidance of an occupational or physical therapist, since every child’s needs are unique and the weights are usually most effective when combined with other supportive strategies.

Partnering With Your Child’s School
By — Caring Minds Nigeria
For many Nigerian families, the hardest conversations about a child’s learning or behaviour happen at the school gate. Partnering With Your Child’s School gives you a clear, respectful playbook for those moments. You’ll learn how to prepare for meetings, what language opens doors (and what shuts them), how to ask for concrete support, and how to follow up when promises fade. The guide is written for real Lagos and Nigerian school settings — public, private, and international — and for parents who want advocacy that is firm, not confrontational. Whether your child has a diagnosis, is “just struggling,” or you’re still figuring things out, this ebook helps you show up as your child’s strongest, calmest ally.
